The Famous PB&J Smoothie!

I got a memo from future-Ainslie just now, and it said if I go to bed, like now, I can make my favourite Peanut Butter & Jelly Smoothie for breakfast.

Besides being a disturbing indication of my incredibly insanity, it’s also a crazy delicious smoothie that I can’t wait to pour down my throat in the morning.  A while ago I blogged about The Secret to a Successful Breakfast, and this crazy delicious PB&J smoothie definitely falls into the sucessful category.  Raw fruits or vegetables? Check! Complex carbs? Check! Tons o’ fiber? Check! Healthy fats? Check! Tons o’ plant-based protein? Check! Hydrating water? Check! Looks like we got a winner!

I mentioned this on Facebook last week, but it’s been a good few years since I’ve bought peanut butter.  I used to pretty much live off the stuff, to the point where I got kinda tired of it and switched to other nut butters like almond, cashew & coconut.  But, I’d been craving it again and finally caved last week and hoooooo boy, is this ever turning my crank right now.  I’ve been making up new PB recipes like you wouldn’t believe, so if you’re a fan, I’ve got a few more ideas coming up soon!  Other than the obvious chocolate connection, this smoothie became my favourite way to eat PB near the end of my last love affair with the stuff.  Something about the frozen cherries really make it taste like a liquid PB&J sammich.

Future Smoothie PB&J Smoothie

1 ripe banana
1 cup frozen cherries
2 tbsp organic peanut butter
1.5-2 cups water or almond milk (depending on desired thickness and/or speed of blender)
1 tbsp hemp seeds

to become the “future smoothie”

Combine all ingredients in blender until smooth.  Drink ‘er up!

So, question.  Am I the only nutter who goes to bed looking forward to breakfast?  Or are there exciting smoothies, meals, drinks that will actually get you out of bed in the morning?

  1. never yet. but this makes me want to walk an hour to the nearest 24 hour grocer to buy ingredients so i can go to bed and wake up to this.

  2. Wow – how do you know I HAVE all this stuff in my fridge??? Yummers – so excited to try :o)

Breakfast is my fav meal of the day – I dream of it often

  3. Oh, I definitely go to bed meal planning for the entire next day. It's rare I can hold off excitement and eat later than as soon as I wake up, even when it's nothing as delicious sounding as this.

  4. hahaha, maria I also look forward to all meals all the time. we're either perfectly normal, or both nutters! 😉

celia, you are responsible for making this smoothie possible by leaving the cherries at our house! this is what I had actually been searching for them to make!

zendotstudio – I'm not sure peanuts are 100% evil 100% of the time. conventional peanuts are generally full of poison mold so I wouldn't recommend them, and they're one of the most acidic nuts in general so I wouldn't recommend eating peanuts ALL the time, but after some research I'd say occasional organic peanut butter consumption is delicious and safe if you're tolerant of them. mostly delicious.
